Weather and climate in Sillamäe
Sillamäe lies on the shore of the Gulf of Finland between Jõhvi and Narva, at the mouth of the Sõtke River. The Ida-Viru coast is among the colder parts of Estonia, and northerly and north-easterly winds bring moist air from the gulf, which in winter often means snowfall.
On the coast the wind plays a big part: the same low-pressure system may bring a storm to Sillamäe when inland it is simply windy. The wind forecast is in the daily table, and official warnings appear on the page as soon as they affect the Ida-Viru coast.
Where this forecast comes from
Most weather sites show a single model and give the impression that the answer is certain. Ilmapiir compares nine national weather models at once: ECMWF, Germany's DWD ICON, the US GFS, the UK Met Office, Météo-France, Norway's MET, Canada's GEM, Japan's JMA and China's CMA.
